Steve started playing when he was 12 and music has consumed his life ever since. He knew from the time he started playing guitar that this would be his life, and he has never considered doing anything else. To this day it is almost all he does; he teaches, he performs and he writes and records music. Steve graduated with a Master’s degree in Jazz guitar performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in May 2015.
Steve has 2 music degrees from 2 of the best music schools in the world: McGill University and the New England Conservatory of Music. He was a part of the exclusive Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program in 2014, where only 25 musicians are selected from across the globe to take part in intensive training at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. He has studied with some of the greatest musicians in the world, including Jerry Bergonzi, Fred Hersch, Billy Hart, Jason Moran and Miguel Zenon. He was recently awarded a full scholarship to the Banff International workshop in Jazz and Creative Music and in 2014 he received a grant from the federal government to pursue his Master’s degree.
Steve has been teaching guitar for over 10 years. He has taught children as young as 5 and adults as old as 75. His parents were both teachers and so were his grandparents. Teaching is his my blood. To this day, he has never had a student quit lessons with him because they were not learning or not enjoying themselves. Steve loves teaching.
